Research profile
Milan Jirásek is a Professor in the Department of Mechanics at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague. His research and teaching encompass the mechanics of materials and structures. Milan is active in the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of nonlinear, inelastic, and time-dependent material behavior, with particular attention to the objective description of localized deformation and failure. He has co-authored two comprehensive monographs: Inelastic Analysis of Structures and Creep and Hygrothermal Effects in Concrete Structures.
Academic profile
Milan completed his Ph.D. at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, in 1993, under the supervision of Prof. Zdeněk P. Bažant. Following this, he spent a decade as a research associate at the Laboratory of Structural and Continuum Mechanics at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. In 2001, he earned his Doctor of Science degree from the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague. In 2004, he joined CTU as an Associate Professor and was soon promoted to Full Professor.
