Research profile
Novak’s research interests are namely in activiies related to Materials Engineering and Computational Mechanics such as multi-scale modelling of composites, development of mechanical metamaterials and development of algorithms for the assessment of their behaviour. He is active as a Civil Engineering consultant in the rehabilitation of historic structures and complex architectural forms and artworks.
Academic profile
Jan Novak graduated from Brno University of Technology in 2002. Subsequently, he defended his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Czech Technical University in Prague in 2008. In between, he performed a one-year fellowship at the Instituto Technológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico City. Shortly after his Ph.D. defense, he gained one-and-a-half year postdoc position at the University of Glasgow and right afterward, a postdoc appointment at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. He joined the Experimental Centre at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at CTU in Prague after his return from Australia. Since the latter appointment, he has been a member of Jan Zeman’s group.
